Equitable Caregiver & Family Member Custody
Third parties, such as family members or other individuals who have acted like a parent to the child, may have legal standing to seek custody in special circumstances. Family members (siblings, grandparents, etc.) may ask a judge for custody or visitation based in part upon his or her status as a relative.
Georgia's Equitable Caregiver Statute allows for individuals who have acted in a caregiver role to seek and receive an order for child custody.
